The Center for Education Testing and Evaluation at the Achievement and Assessment Institute is a research center at the University of Kansas that administers a variety of standardized tests. We are currently accepting submissions for poetry, informational, and narrative texts for grades 3-12 for the Kansas Assessments. Currently, there is no deadline; we accept submissions on a rolling basis.

Authors whose work is accepted will be paid $250.00 for the following rights: exclusive print and electronic rights of the Work for educational assessment purposes and non-exclusive rights of the Work for use outside of educational assessment purposes. Previously published work is acceptable, but author must hold the copyright and include prior publication information when submitting.

All submissions must be appropriate for testing. Submissions that include inappropriate language or references to drugs, sex, alcohol, gambling, magic, holidays, religion, violence, or evolution will not be considered.

Please include details of any affiliation with the University of Kansas in your submission bio, along with an active email address where you can be contacted.

Please allow 2-4 months for response. Questions should be directed to cetesubmissions@ku.edu.

We ask that narratives be between 500 and 1,500 words, with up to five narratives per submission. Please submit all narratives in one document and include publication information for any previously published material.

Our greatest need is for higher level (high school) narrative texts that contain testable literary elements such as strong character development, themes, and symbols. We also welcome narrative texts intended for younger grades. Overall, we look for texts that exemplify quality writing and an engaging storyline. While we seek narratives with tension and plot, submissions do not necessarily need to contain a complete story arc.
